District Executive Message – February 2009
I begin by reminding you our forthcoming Annual Assembly to be held March 20th – 22nd at our congregation in Sarasota [www.uusarasota.com]. Â Â Hope to see you there. [flyer & registration will come to you soon].
Task Force on Racial Justice and Diversity: I continue recruiting a team to craft our District ministries so we may all better address racism, economic oppression, and the challenges of an increasingly diverse society. If you have an interest or questions, please let me know.
Congratulations this month:
Belatedly: To Ft. Lauderdale Unitarian Universalist Church for 50 years of ministry, and, for 16 years of ministry, to University Unitarian Universalist Society, Orlando, both January 25th.
To Friendship Friendship at Pineda on the dedication of their new meeting house February 1st.
To Fort Myers Unitarian Universalist Church on the ordination & installation of their new minister, the [soon to be] Reverend Allison Farnum on the 15th.
To River of Grass Unitarian Universalist Congregation [Plantation] on 10 years of ministry February 29th.
Our Clusters:
The Southwest Cluster hosts our Unitarian Universalist Association’s Director of Stewardship, Dr. Wayne Clark at the Fort Myers Church March 7th. In these challenging economic times, this is one workshop you won’t want to miss.
On March 14th, the Northeast & Southeast Clusters jointly host the Reverend Meg Riley, Director of Advocacy & Witness for our Unitarian Universalist Association, at the Vero Beach congregation.
Unitarian Universalist Allies for Racial Equity:
Also meets, March 13th – 15th, in Kansas City. ARE is an intentional effort by Diverse Revolutionary Unitarian Universalist Multicultural Ministries [http://www.druumm.org/] to enlist white Unitarian Universalists with regard to issues of racial injustice and to be accountable to our sisters and brothers of color. Many congregations begin Stewardship Drives this month. Broadly these are financially challenging times. Naturally, congregational leaders are apprehensive about how that will affect our ministries.
